BOSTON -- Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid had to be helped off the ice and into the locker room after taking a hard hit from behind along the boards from Washington Capitals forward Zach Sill.

The play occurred about five minutes into the second period of Tuesday's game at TD Garden. McQuaid's head appeared to slam against the glass as a result of the contact. The Bruins D-man laid on the ice for a few minutes as team's training staff attended to him.

Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron stuck up for his teammate went after Sill. No penalties were called on either team.

McQuaid has dealt with numerous injuries in his NHL career, but he entered Tuesday having played in all 37 of Boston's games this season.
