Clay Buchholz is hoping to pitch before the end of the regular season, and he took another step toward reaching that goal Sunday.

The Boston Red Sox pitcher threw a bullpen session at Fenway Park ahead of the team's afternoon game against the Baltimore Orioles. While there's no word on whether he'll return before the season is out, Red Sox interim manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday there continues to be an open dialog between Buchholz and the coaching staff.

"We do a good job of communicating here," Lovullo told reporters, as seen on NESN's "Red Sox Gameday Live." "And we're going to follow up with how he feels daily and just make sure that he's taking all the necessary steps to be ready for a healthy 2016."
