John Farrell received some great news back in October that his cancer went into remission.
The Boston Red Sox manager was diagnosed with Stage 1 lymphoma in August, which kept him out of the dugout for the final month-plus of the season. But he says he is doing much better now as he prepares to return in 2016.
"On a personal level, I feel great, energized, and looking forward to things ahead," Farrell said on WEEI's "Hot Stove Show" on Tuesday.
He added: "I have frequent conversations with my doctor. I give him updates. I'm back running -- I was able to get to three miles on a run two days ago, some longer distance bike rides. The energy's coming back. Stamina's getting there, and I think everything's played out to the letter in which it was described to me. So I'm fortunate. And, honestly, on a personal level, into the Thanksgiving holiday, there's a lot to be thankful for. That's probably the best way I can sum it up."
Red Sox director of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced back in October that Farrell would return to his post in 2016, while interim manager Torey Lovullo would go back to his bench coach role. Farrell is entering his fourth season as Boston's manager, a span that includes winning the 2013 World Series.
