The last time we checked in on Paige Spiranac, she was lighting up social media with her Instagram golf videos and photos. But she is in the news Wednesday for a different reason.
Spiranac shot a 77 in her pro debut today at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, a Ladies European Tour event in the United Arab Emirates. Spiranac currently is tied for 94th at 5 over and is 11 shots off the lead.
The former San Diego State University star has turned plenty of heads recently thanks to her social media presence. However, she also has gained critics who say her Internet fame is why she is getting a chance to play professionally.
"I understand where they are coming from," Spiranac told reporters, via GolfChannel.com. "I've played golf and have had good results, but when you look at my game compared to the top players in the world, I'm not in the same league. But I wish they could see that I'm working as hard as I can. I may make it; I may not make it. But I'm just trying to focus on what I need to do to get to the next level and trying not to focus on what they say."
