Uber drivers were a hot commodity Tuesday morning as Toronto commuters dealt with subway and streetcar delays caused by a power outage following an electrical fire at a hydro vault in the city's downtown core.

The ride-sharing service's surge pricing or "dynamic pricing" also came into effect which increases the price for a ride.

Fares were up three times the normal price in some areas.

Uber Canada said it was doing everything it could to encourage more drivers to come online and help out.

The increased demand for Uber came after a power outage caused by a hydro vault fire halted subway service on the Yonge line between Bloor and Osgoode Stations Tuesday morning.

Several streetcar routes were also disabled or diverted in the area.
