CALGARY – Calgary councillors are set to debate proposed amendments to a city bylaw which would allow ride-sharing company Uber to operate legally.
Proposed changes to the city's Livery Transport Bylaw will be presented at a Monday meeting of city council.

The amended bylaw would force Uber drivers to undergo police background checks, be properly insured, hold proper Class 4 licences and have their vehicles undergo safety checks.
Uber complained earlier this month the amendments would "create too much red tape."

Currently, the City of Calgary's Livery Transportation Bylaw does not allow unlicensed private for-hire vehicles to operate in Calgary due to a variety of public safety concerns.
