A woman had to be rescued at a RV park in Surrey Tuesday night after her balcony collapsed and sent her tumbling nearly eight metres down a ravine.

Fortunately, the woman was able to stop her fall by clinging to a tree.

Fire crews arrived shortly after to help her out, but the rescue proved to be difficult.

Crews had to strap the woman to a spine board and pull her out.

"Just the steepness to it itself, in that it wasn't something we were going to be able to package her up and bring her up without the aid of the ropes and harnesses and things that they use," said Battalion Chief Gary McHarg with the Surrey Fire Department.

The woman's current condition is unknown, but it's believed her injuries are non-life threatening.
