Stephen Curry didn't make Boston Celtics fans very happy Friday night, but he's on the city's side when it comes to the team right down the street.

The Golden State Warriors point guard, who helped keep his team's historic winning streak alive with a double-overtime win over the Celtics at TD Garden, is a self-proclaimed Boston Red Sox fan.

Curry grew up in North Carolina and is a die-hard Carolina Panthers fan, so how did he settle on the Red Sox as his favorite Major League Baseball club? As Curry tells it, Boston's bitter rival played a role.

"Growing up, the closest team geographically was the (Atlanta) Braves," he told WEEI.com's John Tomase on Friday. "But my brother (Sacramento Kings guard Seth Curry) chose the (New York) Yankees when we were six or seven. I had to choose the opposite team. I chose the Red Sox and I've stuck with them ever since. It's a pretty cool thing between me and my brother."

Apparently Curry is a bit more than a fair-weather fan. The reigning NBA MVP had his bachelor party at Fenway Park in 2011, where he got autographs from slugger David Ortiz, chatted with former first baseman Kevin Youkilis and snapped pictures with ex-outfielder Mike Cameron (remember him?).

Two years later, Boston captured its third World Series title of the 21st century, and Curry took to Twitter to celebrate.

The last two seasons have been rough, but Dave Dombrowski and the Red Sox have made some noise this offseason by landing a closer in Craig Kimbrel and an ace in David Price. Curry says he approves.

"We're making moves, and I know (the offseason) isn't over yet," Curry told Tomase. "But you've got to make splashes these days to stay competitive, and they're doing it. It's great."
