BOSTON -- Brad Marchand could be hearing from the NHL after taking out Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki with a low hit.

As he pursued puck-carrier Mark Stone during the first period of Tuesday's Bruins-Senators game, Marchand made contact with the legs of Borowiecki, causing the blueliner to flip over his back and fall face-first onto the ice.

Marchand was not penalized for the hit, but The Boston Globe's Amalie Benjamin quickly reported, citing a source, that the league's Department of Player Safety plans to review it. CSNNE.com's Joe Haggerty reported the same shortly after.

The Bruins winger was suspended five games in 2012 for a low hit on Vancouver Canucks defenseman Sami Salo and two games last season for slew-footing New York Rangers forward Derick Brassard.

This certainly would be an inopportune time for another ban, as Boston's next game is the NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium.
