Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes recently was arrested for allegedly abusing his wife.
The arrest reportedly came on Oct. 31 with news of the alleged incident just starting to come out Monday night. A Hawaii TV station, KHNL, reported Reyes and his wife, Katherine, were arguing in their room on Halloween which led to the alleged violence. According to the report, Reyes' wife told police that the Rockies shortstop grabbed her off the bed and shoved her. She also reportedly claimed Reyes grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into a sliding glass door.
She also told police she had injuries to her thigh, neck and wrist and was taken to a local hospital. He was arrested for abuse of a family or household member and released on bail.
The Rockies released this statement early Tuesday morning.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal explained Tuesday morning how Major League Baseball will approach the matter.
This alleged incident comes just three months after MLB and the players union signed a new domestic violence policy, which allows the commissioner to issue discipline for the aforementioned "just cause." Under the new policy, there are no maximum or minimum penalties.
