Major League Baseball is mourning the death of former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson.

Hanson, who suffered "catastrophic organ failure," went into a coma and was transferred to an Atlanta hospital, per Zach Klein of WBS-TV. He died Monday at the hospital.

Hanson amassed a career 49-35 record, a 3.80 ERA and 648 strikeouts at the major league level. He finished third in the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year voting, his first of four seasons with the Braves.

Hanson last pitched in the majors in 2013 for the Los Angeles Angels.

Many players took to Twitter to share their thoughts and prayers, including Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons.
