The New York Giants' pass rush could soon be adding some much-needed explosiveness.

FOXSports.com reports defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is close to signing a contract with the Giants, which is expected to be completed Tuesday. Pierre-Paul has missed the entire season thus far after blowing off his finger and part of his hand in a Fourth of July fireworks accident.

The hope is, according to a FOX Sports source, that Pierre-Paul will be ready for the Giants' Week 10 matchup with the New England Patriots. He'll reportedly spend this week getting into shape before returning to practice with hopes of ramping up his work in order to be ready for the New England matchup.

According to the report, the Giants will end up paying Pierre-Paul less than what they would have had he not had the fireworks accident, which is what they sought to do shortly after the news broke over the summer.

Pierre-Paul was among the NFL's league leader in sacks last season with 12.5. If his play is anything close to that, it would be a big help for the Giants who have struggled to put pressure on the quarterback this season. Only the Atlanta Falcons have fewer quarterback sacks this season than the Giants' nine.
