Torii Hunter is calling it quits.

The five-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove award winner told the Minnesota Star Tribune that he's ready to focus on life outside baseball.

"I've been married to the game 23 years," Hunter said. "I put it almost No. 1 in my life. My family kind of second. I made sacrifices for my family. And now it is time to give them more time."

Hunter kept things quiet until now because he "didn't want a going-away tour" or "to be a distraction."

"I'm retiring because I want to focus on my family."

Hunter retires with 2,452 hits with a .277 batting average, including 353 home runs and 1,391 RBIs.
