Tempers flared Wednesday night at PNC Park. An unlikely player was in the middle of the drama.
Chicago Cubs catcher Davis Ross, known across Major League Baseball as a consummate professional, was involved in a dust-up with Pittsburgh Pirates utility player Sean Rodriguez when the benches cleared in the seventh inning of the teams' National League Wild Card Game.
The incident stemmed from the Pirates plunking Cubs starter Jake Arrieta, who was in the midst of pitching a gem.
Rodriguez stole the show by going bonkers. He swung at Ross and later took things to another level in the Pirates' dugout by throwing down with an unsuspecting Gatorade cooler. But Ross acknowledged after the game that he crossed the line, too, albeit unintentionally.
