The Boston Red Sox's current six-game road trip takes them to New York this weekend, where they kick off a three-game series against the NL East-leading Mets on Friday as +170 moneyline underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Red Sox capped a three-game visit to Chicago's South Side with a 3-0 win on Wednesday to take two of three from the White Sox, improving the club to 6-3 in their past nine games.

The win marked Boston's first shutout victory since posting a 1-0 decision against the Minnesota Twins on June 2, and continued a solid stretch in which the team has allowed just 3.33 runs per game over its last nine games, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

This comes in stark contrast to the Red Sox's previous five games, in which they allowed 43 total runs while scoring a whopping 53 total runs, fueled by their 22-10 thumping of the Seattle Mariners on August 15.

Boston's recent mixed bag performance has produced positive results for sports bettors. The club enters Friday night's Red Sox vs. Mets betting matchup at Citi Field with a 9-4 record in their past 13 games when pegged as moneyline underdogs, and is a solid 7-3 when pegged as an underdog sporting odds of +130 or worse.

While the Red Sox battle to salvage positives from a lost season, New York heads into Friday's clash as the hottest team in the National League, riding a seven-game win streak and listed as heavy -200 moneyline favorites.

Pegged at a distant 33-1 on the odds to win the World Series at the start of the season, New York now is in command of a seven-game lead in the NL East over the Washington Nationals, who opened 2015 as 6-1 World Series favorites but are now at risk of falling out of playoff contention.

New York's solid play continues to fuel their rise up the futures, emerging as strong -1000 favorites to claim their first division title since 2006 while the Nats lag at +500.

The Mets have also vaulted up the World Series odds, currently listed at 15-2, but still have much to do to catch the Toronto Blue Jays who sit as 4-1 favorites. The Kansas City Royals closely trail Toronto at 5-1, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals at 6-1.
