It appears Clay Buchholz's 2015 season is officially over. And his status for 2016 depends largely on his health, too.

Buchholz's status was one of many topics Boston Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski talked about with reporters before Friday's game against the New York Mets at Citi Field.

"You don't want to rush him and hurt him," Dombrowski said of Buchholz on "Red Sox Gameday Live" before Friday's game. "I think it's really a simple equation in the sense that if you think he's healthy -- and I'm not the one that's capable of making that decision, it's going to be the doctor's decision -- but picking up his option's a very simple thing because he's a good big league pitcher."
