Residents of southern and central Alberta hit with strong wind gusts Thursday afternoon were rewarded with record temperatures.

The strongest wind gusts were felt in Calgary through the 1 p.m. hour while wind warning were in place. That typical Alberta wind pushed temperatures close to the 20 degree mark in the Medicine Hat region.

In central Alberta, the capital city shattered the previous record of 8.1 degrees by reaching 14.2 degrees on Thursday.

It was a little too close to call in Calgary where the unofficial measurement of 15.8 degrees yesterday exceeds the 1979 record of 15.7 degrees.
