People with disabilities in Vancouver are voicing their concern over the coming closure of the fare gates for the SkyTrain.

Next month, people who need assistance will have to call an attendant ahead of time.

TransLink says, starting the week of April 4, you will need a Compass Card or Compass ticket to get on a train or SeaBus. All fare gates will be closed April 8, but that poses problems for people with disabilities.

TransLink has not yet announced a permanent solution for those who cannot tap in or tap out.

"Currently, these folks are using the Canada Line, SkyTrain and SeaBus without assistance," said Jane Dyson, executive director of the Disability Alliance of BC. "They're able to access transportation on their own, which is a lot more dignified and independent than having to call to get somebody to let them through."
