KELOWNA -- Kelowna fire fighters say damage is extensive as the result of an early morning structure fire in Rutland Wednesday.

The call came in shortly before 3 a.m. after a security guard reported heavy smoke coming from a building at 150 Highway 33 West.

The building was not occupied.

"Firefighters entered the structure and extinguished the fire that they found," says Platoon Captain, Tim Light.  "An extensive overhaul took place which found the fire had extended into the attic of the structure."

Light says the building suffered major damage and that the cause is under investigation.

"RCMP have been advised to secure the premise until investigators can be on scene later this morning," says Light.

There were no injuries.
