KAMLOOPS--A fatal crash has closed Highway 5 south of Kamloops.

RCMP say the crash happened just before 6:30 a.m.

A single vehicle with two occupants was heading towards Kamloops and went out of control, crossing the Southbound lanes and ending up down an embankment.

The driver has been taken to hospital with injuries and the passenger is deceased.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and alcohol is believed to be involved.

Both lanes of Highway 5 are closed as a Collision Reconstructionist investigates.

The highway is expected to open around 1 p.m.
