CALGARY - Police and emergency crews were called to the scene of serious single vehicle crash on Highway 1 and Old Banff Coach Road Sunday at around 11 a.m.

An SUV travelling eastbound on Highway 1 carrying four people and the family dog, left the road and crashed into a ditch, rolling several times and crossing an access road before coming to a stop.

All four family member were taken to hospital. The 6 month old, 3-year-old and mother is in serious condition and the father is in stable non-life threatening condition.

No information has been released about the family dog.

Traffic in both directions was backed up for roughly an hour due to lane closures and both highways have since reopened both highways as of 12:30 p.m.

No word yet on what caused the vehicle to leave the road.
