WINNIPEG – Two people have died and two others have been injured in a house fire on Alexander Ave.

Fire crews arrived to the scene after 2:30 a.m. Sunday and encountered heavy fire conditions in the back of the house.

They were able to bring the fire under control. Four people were taken to hospital but two of them succumbed to their injuries.

Alex Forrest, president of the United Firefighters of Winnipeg, tweeted that the other two people are in critical condition and that two firefighters were injured.

The cause and damage estimate are both still under investigation.

City officials also say a dog died in the fire.

The house is located in the 300-block of Alexander.
