A 22-year-old man had his severed off in a crash north of North Battleford, Sask. on Friday. Battlefords RCMP were called to a single snowmobile crash off Highway 378 shortly after 11 p.m. CT.

Initial investigation revealed that the snowmobile drove off a steep backslope at the edge of the highway road allowance. RCMP say one of the snowmobile operator's hands was severed as a result of the collision.

WPD ambulance was on scene providing medical attention when officers arrived. STARS air ambulance transported the injured man to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

He is a resident of North Battleford but his name has not been released.

RCMP say speed, poor visibility due to the dark and unmarked hazards were all contributing factors of the crash.
