A 68-year-old man from Dartmouth is facing two tickets after a head on collision with a police cruiser Friday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police aren't naming the man but say he was issued tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle and failing to yield while making a left turn on a highway. The officer driving was deemed not at fault.

The collision happened while the man was turning left from Pleasant Street onto Linden Lea, he crossed in front of the police car which was driving north on Pleasant Street. The crash caused "extensive damage" to both vehicles, said Staff Sgt. Bill Morris in a police report.

Both drivers were transported to the Dartmouth General Hospital to be examined and later released.
