WINNIPEG - If you've ever been in an emergency situation outside there is a survival pattern that can help you.

The International Canadian School of Survival joined Global's Morning News Tuesday to run through what anyone who enjoys the outdoors should know.

"First aid, fire, shelter, signals, water and food," survival instructor Dave MacDonald said. "That gives you confidence to survive no matter what comes your way."

MacDonald came to Manitoba to work with the Canadian Air Force years ago and stayed because of the outdoor opportunities in the province.

"You can go anywhere here up north but you have to be prepared," MacDonald said.

He also suggests proper equipment, portable shelter and food in a bag you can take along when heading off on an adventure.
