Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for northwestern New Brunswick today.

The weather statement affects Edmundston and Madawaska County and the western half of Restigouche County.

Environment Canada says the areas should expect up to 20 centimetres of snow later today, which could then change over to rain.

The low pressure system moving in from the west has closed schools in Miramichi, Bathurst, Dalhousie and Campbellton.

Schools in several francophone districts in the area have closed as well.
