A group of hikers has been found safe after becoming stranded in a closed area near Grouse Mountain.

The seven hikers went missing in the area of Crown Pass.

The hikers were on the Hanes Valley Trail when they got lost. Although they are safe now, rescue crews say they were not prepared for the winter conditions and hiked a trail that is closed for the season.

"If there's an area that's closed, you shouldn't be in there," said Don Jardine, North Shore Search and Rescue manager. "There's other places that you can hike that are open, where you can have a good enjoyable hike and not run into problems."

"And make sure you're prepared for the terrain you're going into and the conditions that you're going to experience."
