It looks as though the Kansas City Royals gave Alex Gordon what he wanted.
Last month, the longtime Royals left fielder's camp reportedly told Kansas City it had "no chance" of signing him to a four-year contract worth an alleged $12 or 13 million per year, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported. But on Wednesday, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reported the Royals got their guy.
Kansas City increased its offer to $18 million per year, and Gordon reportedly accepted a four-year, $72 million deal, per Heyman, keeping the 32-year-old locked up through the 2019 season.
Gordon's deal probably seems steep for an outfielder on the other side of 30, but he's improved greatly over the years, collecting four Gold Gloves and three All-Star nods in his last five seasons. Not to mention, Gordon was a huge part of the Royals' two World Series trips and this season's championship.
The contract doesn't include an opt-out or a no-trade clause, per Heyman.
