Nikki Bella took the first step on a long road to recovery Wednesday.
The WWE Diva and former Divas champion underwent neck surgery to repair a herniated disc on Wednesday. The Twitter account she shares with twin sister Brie posted the following update Wednesday afternoon.
Bella's surgery required a bone fusion in her neck to repair the severely herniated disc, which had slipped behind her C6 and C7 vertebrae -- an injury she described in a recent E! News interview as "basically ... a broken neck."
Her boyfriend, WWE superstar John Cena, posted the following photo and request before her surgery Wednesday morning.
Her mother's fiance, former wrestler John Laurinitis, shared a photo of the family out to lunch celebrating the successful surgery while Bella rested in post-op.
Bella will be in a neck brace for the next three months with limited movement and won't step into a ring for at least six months.
