The 2016 NHL Winter Classic showcases the best rivalry in hockey: the Boston Bruins versus the Montreal Canadiens.

These historic franchises will take their rivalry outside for the first time when they meet at Gillette Stadium, the home of the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, on New Year's Day.

The Boston Pride of the NWHL play Les Canadiennes of the CWHL in the first outdoor game featuring two professional women's hockey teams. This game will not be televised, but anyone with a ticket to the Bruins-Canadiens Alumni Game will have access to the event.

Bruins-Canadiens Alumni Game
Time: 3:30 p.m. ET
TV: NBC Sports Network

Legends and retired players from the Bruins and Canadiens face off in the annual alumni game. Given the storied history of these Original Six franchises, this game will feature an impressive collection of hockey talent, including some of the best players in the history of the sport.

This is the first time the Canadiens are participating in the Winter Classic. Boston played in the 2010 game and defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in overtime at Fenway Park. The B's are the first team to ever host multiple Winter Classics.
