The good people at the Guinness Book of Records have confirmed what we long suspected about Robert Lewandowski's five-goal explosion in September: It truly the stuff of legends.
The Guinness Book of Records on Monday presented Lewandowski with official certificates, which regonize the Bundesliga (German first division) records he set on Sept. 22 in Bayern Munich's 5-1 win over Wolfsburg.
Lewandowski scored five goals in nine minutes after entering the game at halftime as a substitute, capturing the hearts and minds of the soccer world that day. The Guinness Book of Records ensured Lewndowski's feats that day take their rightful place in the annals of German soccer.
Lewandowsi, 27, proved his showstopping performance against Wolfsburg was no fluke. The Polish striker has scored 16 goals in 16 games in all competitions for club and country since that day in what is shaping up to be the best season of his career.
