Dave Roberts could be headed toward a promotion.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly interviewed the former outfielder for their managerial position left vacant by Don Mattingly, per FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Roberts, who's famous for his steal that helped the Boston Red Sox stay alive in the 2004 American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees, allegedly is expected to leave his position as the San Diego Padres' bench coach regardless.

Despite the interview, Rosenthal also reported the Dodgers aren't close to making a decision. They're also rumored to have interviewed Nebraska coach and former outfielder Darin Erstad, and Roberts' fellow former Red Sox outfielder Gabe Kapler was said to be the favorite for the job shortly after Mattingly left.
