The Denver Broncos have kicked off NFL Trade Deadline week with a bang, acquiring San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
By name alone, the deal is a borderline blockbuster, despite the low price tag Denver paid. Davis still is just 31 years old, and the 6-foot-3 two-time Pro Bowler will be a welcome addition to Denver's receiving corps, which lost two-time Pro Bowl TE Julius Thomas via free agency last season.
Davis has been a non-factor since 2013, when he was named to the All-Pro team. He caught just 26 passes with two touchdowns in 2014, both of which came in Week 1 last season. He has not caught a touchdown pass since. In 2015, he has caught just 18 passes for 194 yards. He's also missed two games with a knee injury, and missed two games last season.
Davis' best season came in 2009, when he caught 78 passes for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns, all career highs. In 2013, he tied his personal best with 13 touchdowns.
If Davis stays healthy, playing in quarterback Peyton Manning's functional offense certainly will help his numbers, despite Manning's 2015 struggles. He's worth an add in all fantasy football formats and has second-half breakout potential.
The NFL trade deadline is Tues., Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. ET.
