Malik Douglas was supposed to go to his first Carolina Panthers game with his father, Michael Douglas, and his twin brother Mikehi, but tragedy derailed their plans for some father-son bonding.

Michael Douglas was fatally shot in the back five days before Monday's Week 8 game against the Indianapolis Colts, and 16-year-old Malik talked about his story with Terri Sims, a social worker at his high school in Greensboro, N.C. Sims then reached out to the Panthers, who responded with a care package for Malik that included personal notes from coach Ron Rivera and quarterback Cam Newton.

CBS affiliate WFNY aired footage that Sims captured of the special moment.
