Jimmy Hayes played to his strength in the first period Thursday versus the Washington Capitals. It paid off with the Boston Bruins' first goal of the night.

With the puck making its way down ice on the left wing, Hayes took advantage of his north-south game and took a beeline to the net. When a shot deflected off goaltender Braden Holtby, Hayes was there to deflect it in and give Boston the advantage.
