We're well into autumn, and as Thanksgiving nears, everyone is relishing in the beautiful sight of crisp leaves falling. Here is an ideal craft to bring the spirit of the season into your home: a glittering garland made of leaves. This festive decoration may appear glamorous, but its so simple and inexpensive to create and enjoy.
You'll need:
- A pot of liquid glue
- A thin ribbon, the color is your choice
- As many colors of glitter as you would like your garland to turn out
- A paintbrush
- A big pile of leaves
Make sure that the leaves you select for your garland are fresh, healthy, and thick. You won't want dry or flakey leaves, since they may fall apart.
Lay out a newspaper or another form of padding to protect the surface you're crafting on. Then, pour out a dollop of your liquid glue. Flatten your leaves one at a time and then paint each of them with a thorough layer of glue.
Sprinkle a generous helping of glitter on each leaf, and then shake off the excess to reveal your final product: a perfect, sparkly leaf. You can choose to spray leaves with hairspray so that the glitter will hold. Now repeat the process until you have as many decorated leaves as you want to hang in your garland.
Now it's time to string them all up. Cut one piece of ribbon the length that you want your garland to span. Then, cut a shorter piece for each leaf that will be hanging. If you want a more dynamic look, hang each leaf from a different length of ribbon.
Carefully punch a hole in each leaf, and thread a piece of ribbon through the hole, finishing off with a knot. Then, attach the other end of the ribbon to your longer, overhanging stretch of ribbon.
When you're done, you can hang up your garland anywhere you please. It's bound to remind you of autumn magic every time you see it.
