Matt Harvey was the hero the New York Mets needed Sunday night, tossing eight shutout innings on 102 pitches for the home team. But The Dark Knight refused to leave the game headed into the ninth and surrendered a two-run lead.

But Harvey couldn't get the job done. Mets closer Jeurys Familia was warmed and ready to enter the game, but manager Terry Collins opted to stick with Harvey following a leadoff walk to Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain. Cain stole second base before scoring on an Eric Hosmer double that flew over the head of Mets left fielder Michael Conforto.

Familia then took over and recorded two quick outs, but Hosmer moved over to third on a groundout and then smartly took home on a second grounder. He waited until third baseman David Wright released the ball, took off for home, and scored on a wild throw.
