Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots are back, much to the delight of fantasy football owners. But that means some considerable reshuffling in our tight end rankings for Week 5.
Here are the top 10 tight ends to target this week.
1. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots
Week 5 Opponent: Dallas Cowboys
2015 Stats: 16 receptions, 308 yards, 4 TDs
Gronkowski and the Patriots will be extra rested for this game coming off a bye. Gronk certainly earned some time off with his heavy workload so far, but expect that to continue against the Cowboys and their middle-of-the-pack pass defense.
2. Jimmy Graham, Seattle Seahawks
Week 5 Opponent: Cincinnati Bengals
2015 Stats: 18 receptions, 174 yards, 2 TDs
Graham's struggles in adjusting to Seattle's offense continued Monday night, when he had just four catches for 29 yards against the Detroit Lions. Is it time to pull the plug? Considering you probably drafted him in the first three rounds, not yet. But we're close.
3. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
Week 5 Opponent: Chicago Bears
2015 Stats: 21 receptions, 293 yards, 2 TDs
Kelce took a big step back against the Bengals, but that should be seen more as an outlier. Kelce continues to be one of Alex Smith's favorite targets, and he is a touchdown threat whenever the Chiefs are in the red zone.
4. Martellus Bennett, Chicago Bears
Week 5 Opponent: Kansas City Chiefs
2015 Stats: 24 receptions, 201 yards, 2 TDs
Bennett's numbers skyrocketed in Week 4, thanks to Jay Cutler's return. The Chiefs also have one of the worst pass defenses in the league, meaning Bennett should be a top-tier tight end once again this week.
5. Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills
Week 5 Opponent: Tennessee Titans
2015 Stats: 21 receptions, 255 yards, 2 TDs
Clay's numbers just keep getting better and better. He is emerging as one of quarterback Tyrod Taylor's favorite targets, which is good news for fantasy owners.
6. Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals
Week 5 Opponent: Seattle Seahawks
2015 Stats: 16 receptions, 222 yards, 3 TDs
Eifert rebounded nicely in Week 4 from his goose egg against the Baltimore Ravens. However, he has to deal with the "Legion of Boom" in Week 5, which could result in another step back.
7. Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
Week 5 Opponent: New England Patriots
2015 Stats: 25 receptions, 238 yards, 2 TDs
Witten continues to be a bit of a risky play because of Tony Romo's injury. Witten had a good game in Week 4 -- four receptions for 57 yards -- but he still hasn't found the end zone since Week 1.
8. Owen Daniels, Denver Broncos
Week 5 Opponent: Oakland Raiders
2015 Stats: 12 receptions, 61 yards, 2 TDs
The Raiders have the second-worst pass defense in the league, so expect Daniels to be a trendy play this week in fantasy. Owners will need to rely on a touchdown from him, though.
9. Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
Week 5 Opponent: Pittsburgh Steelers
2015 Stats: 0 receptions, 0 yards, 0 TD
Gates' four-game suspension is over, so it might be a good idea to pick him up off waivers if he's still available in your league.
10. Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans
Week 5 Opponent: Buffalo Bills
2015 Stats: 10 receptions, 111 yards, 1 TD
Walker is another tight end flying under the radar. The Titans are coming off a bye, so Walker's previous wrist injury shouldn't be a concern for fantasy owners.
