The Kansas City Royals followed up a surprise run to the 2014 World Series by finishing with the American League's best record this season.

They will host the Houston Astros -- who earned a playoff berth by beating the New York Yankees in the wild card game -- in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Thursday night.

This is the first postseason appearance for the Astros since 2005 and their first as a member of the AL.
