Jonas Gustavsson won the Boston Bruins backup goalie job in training camp and will make his regular-debut for the Original Six club in Wednesday night's road game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Gustavsson spent the last three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. He went 3-3-1 with a .911 save percentage and a 2.56 GAA in seven games during the 2014-15 campaign. He was signed to a professional tryout before training camp, then signed a one-year deal worth $700,000 shortly before the season opener.
The Bruins need a quality performance from Gustavsson to avoid an 0-4-0 start. Boston's defense and goaltending haven't met expectations through three games -- the B's have allowed 32 high-danger scoring chances and 16 goals against.
The Avalanche are a poor puck possession team and lack top-end skill on their blue line, but their offense is on fire with a league-best five goals per game average.
