The Boston Bruins didn't play their best hockey in the first period Friday against the New York Islanders, and their coach let them know it.

The Bruins got out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to Brett Connolly, but they allowed two unanswered goals on defensive miscues by the first intermission.

"The message after the first period was pretty simple," coach Claude Julien said on "Bruins Overtime Live" after Friday's game. "We had to start playing a lot harder in our D-zone. ... We got beat back to the front of the net multiple times in that first period, and that's not just goal, but it's just a matter of time before that happened."

Apparently the team heard the message loud and clear because Boston went on to win the game 5-3.
