The Boston Red Sox are shutting Joe Kelly down for the rest of the season.

The right-hander came out of Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles after only 2 1/3 innings with tightness in his shoulder. Tests showed no structural damage, but Boston isn't taking any chances.

"Just normal inflammation and fatigue," interim manager Torey Lovullo said on "Red Sox First Pitch' before Boston played the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. "We felt like he had exceeded the amount of innings that we wanted -- he was right at that area. The right thing to do was to shut him down."
