The New England Patriots requested last week -- in the wake of quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension related to Deflategate being nullified -- that two suspended staffers, equipment assistant John Jastremski and officials locker room attendant Jim McNally, both be reinstated.
The NFL said the request was "under review," and new details of that review process emerged Sunday.
Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, has formally requested to meet with both Jastremski and McNally before either is reinstated by the Patriots, sources informed of the situation told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
Both employees face discipline for their role in the apparent deflation of footballs, sources told Rapoport.
According to Rapoport, the goal of Vincent's face-to-face meetings with the employees would not be to reinvestigate their alleged involvement in the Patriots' deflated football scandal or to begin another discussion about what did or didn't happen. It's still a notable development, though, as it opens the possibility that the employees could be disciplined by the league for their alleged wrongdoing.
Jastremski and McNally both were suspended indefinitely in May after being cited in the Ted Wells report. League officials believe the staffers should be held accountable, according to Rapoport.
