The New England Patriots cut four players after their final practice before their bye week.

The team released veteran linebacker Dekoda Watson from their 53-man roster. They also cut three players from their practice squad: wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins, guard Chris Barker and defensive tackle Joe Vellano.

Watson was signed by the Patriots on Sept. 16. He previously was with the team during training camp over the summer. The Patriots traded for linebacker Jon Bostic on Tuesday.

Thompkins was signed to the practice squad Sept. 6 after being cut by the Oakland Raiders. Thompkins was on the team in 2013 and 2014. Barker and Vellano also spent time on the Patriots' active roster in 2013 and 2014.

The Patriots now go into their bye week with one open spot on their 53-man roster and three vacancies on the practice squad.
