The Boston Red Sox's search for a new general manager is over.
Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced the hiring of Mike Hazen as the new senior vice president/general manager Thursday. This move creates a new dynamic in baseball operations, which was explored in depth on NESN's "Red Sox First Pitch" before Boston hosted the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday.
"It's one of those situations where it's a new title for baseball right now is president of baseball operations that oversees the whole entire operation," NESN's Tim Wakefield said. "I'm happy for Mike. ... It's an interesting concept. I think it works. I'm anxious to see where this goes."
