FOXBORO, Mass. -- Kenbrell Thompkins has been on the New England Patriots for a little over a week, and he's already winning awards.
Thompkins, who's currently on the practice squad, was one of three Patriots wearing black practice player of the week jerseys Monday afternoon. He was joined by safety Tavon Wilson and, surprisingly, linebacker Jerod Mayo.
The practice player of the week awards usually get handed out to players on the scout team who best imitated members of the opposition. Thompkins was likely mimicking his cousin, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown.
Mayo, a defensive captain, played sparingly against the Steelers, only receiving snaps in certain base-defense sets. Wilson was inactive after being listed as questionable on the practice report with a quad injury.
