Unless you have a consistent top-five fantasy football defense, you should be adding and dropping at the position based on weekly matchups.

There's nothing worse than having your star player go off for multiple touchdowns, only to have your defense (and fantasy score) single-highhandedly suffer because you stuck with the defense that happened to be playing him this week.

To make things a bit easier, we've given you our top 10 Week 3 defense/special teams plays that we like (plus a bit of bonus content), but remember: The only thing more unpredictable than a defense is a kicker, so take these rankings accordingly.

1. Denver Broncos
Week 3 Opponent: Detroit Lions
2015 Stats: 7 takeaways (4 INTs, 3 fumbles), 2 defensive touchdowns

The Broncos have allowed the fewest passing yards per game (135.0) through the first two weeks and rsnk second overall in total yards allowed (243.5). They lead the NFL in defensive touchdowns and play an 0-2 Lions team that ranks 19th in scoring and is tied for third in giveaways (5). Denver has scored nine more points than any other fantasy defense.

2. New York Jets
Week 3 Opponent: Miami Dolphins
2015 Stats: 10 takeaways (4 INTs, 6 fumbles), 1 defensive touchdown

As if things could get any worse for the stumbling Philadelphia Eagles, they now must travel to New York for a road game against the red-hot Jets defense. The Eagles are tied for third in giveaways (5) and rank 28th in scoring. Darrelle Revis pick-six, anyone?

3. New England Patriots
Week 3 Opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars
2015 Stats: 4 takeaways (4 INTs)

Fact: If you rotated your defense in 2014 to have the team that played the Jaguars every week, you would've had the highest-scoring fantasy D/ST. New England leads the league with 11 sacks, ranks in the top 10 in forced fumbles (3) and is tied for the lead in interceptions (4). Jacksonville's offense ranks 21st in total yards and 30th in scoring.

4. Carolina Panthers
Week 3 Opponent: New Orleans Saints
2015 Stats: 4 takeaways, (3 INTs, 1 fumble), 1 defensive touchdown

The Panthers have the third-highest scoring defense through two weeks, and they're facing a Saints team that just lost Drew Brees at quarterback. Expected Saints starter Luke McCown hasn't throw a pass in an actual NFL game since 2011 and for a touchdown since 2007, and he has more career interceptions (14) than TDs (9).

5. Seattle Seahawks
Week 3 Opponent: Chicago Bears
2015 Stats: 4 takeaways (4 INTs), 1 punt-return TD

Say what you will about Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, but at least you know what you're getting -- and that he can find the bevy of offensive weapons he has on the team. But Jimmy Clausen is largely unproven, and his career numbers (5 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 53.7 completion percentage) are worse than McCown's. Seattle's defense is a relatively safe play, despite Chicago's talented offense.

6. Arizona Cardinals
Week 3 Opponent: San Francisco 49ers
2015 Stats: 3 takeaways (3 INTs), 1 defensive touchdown, 1 kick-return touchdown

Arizona's defense and special teams have been phenomenal, and the entire San Francisco offense is an enigma. They haven't looked great at any point this season, and they've faced mediocre defenses in Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

7. Houston Texans
Week 3 Opponent: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2015 Stats: 1 takeaway (INT)

To say Houston hasn't looked great is an understatement, but Tampa Bay is tied for fourth with four giveaways this season, and rookie QB Jameis Winston has been shaky. Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins will miss the next four to six weeks with a shoulder injury, and it might take Mike Evans a few games to get comfortable (if he plays) following the hamstring ailment that sidelined him for the first two games. This has rebound game written all over it for the Texans' defense.

8. Buffalo Bills
Week 3 Opponent: Miami Dolphins
2015 Stats: 5 takeaways (2 INTs, 3 fumbles)

Miami's offense looks completely incompetent, ranking 24th in total yards and 26th in scoring. Sure, Buffalo gave up 40 points to the Patriots, but that's also arguably the best offense in the league. Making matters worse for the Dolphins: Starting running back Lamar Miller is hurt, as is tight end Jordan Cameron.

9. Washington Redskins
Week 3 Opponent: New York Giants
2015 Stats: 1 takeaway (1 fumble)

OK, so Giants QB Eli Manning actually hasn't looked terrible, and the team is tied for first in the NFL with only one giveaway. But Washington has stymied two offenses in a row, albeit two relatively poor offenses at that (Dolphins, St. Louis Rams). The Redskins have allowed the fewest yards per game (234.5) and the third-fewest points (13.5). They should be able to contain a nonexistent Giants run game, and then it's all about managing Odell Beckham Jr.

10. Kansas City Chiefs
Week 3 Opponent: Green Bay Packers
2015 Stats: 3 takeaways (2 INTs, 1 fumble), 1 defensive touchdown

Kansas City's secondary is one of the best in the NFL, Justin Houston's pass-rush abilities alone make any quarterback uncomfortable, and Green Bay is banged up. Davante Adams probably will play, Eddie Lacy might not, but the Chiefs' defense is very opportunistic. Green Bay has only one giveaway -- a lost fumble -- but despite allowing 51 points in two games, Kansas City has managed 20 fantasy points.

Bonus: If you're feeling bold (or have no other options), why not throw the Tennessee Titans out there? While we certainly don't think Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will continue to play so poorly, until he proves otherwise, it might be worth a risk. The Titans have allowed the fourth-fewest yards per game thus far (against bad teams, we know) and are 11th in points allowed.

Most Giveaways: Colts (8) vs. Titans; Chargers (6) vs Vikings

Teams With Special-Team TDs: Punt Return: Seahawks, Dolphins, Rams, Cleveland Browns; Kick Return: Cardinals.
