KELOWNA–Volunteers interested in helping Syrian refugees in the Okanagan are attending a workshop in Kelowna.

It's being held at Okanagan College, in the Student Services Building on Saturday, March 12, from 1-3 p.m.

Journalist Alya Ramadan will be a guest speaker at the event, talking about the current crisis in Syria.

Interested volunteers can also sign up to support refugee families in a number of categories, including donations, ESL training, job-search and grocery shopping.

First line volunteers and workers from community groups and from Kelowna Community Resources will be on hand to answer questions about the needs of families currently settling in Kelowna and the Central Okanagan.

Jamie Henderson, an organizer from the Mission Creek Alliance sponsor group says, "Kelowna has an opportunity to pull together and welcome families coming from total loss and devastation. We know the families are eager to learn, work, and contribute to Kelowna."
